How are Agree-Disagree scores calculated?

Each response on the Agree-Disagree scale contributes a score:

  • Strongly Agree: 100%
  • Agree: 80%
  • Somewhat Agree: 60%
  • Somewhat Disagree: 40%
  • Disagree: 20%
  • Strongly Disagree: 0%

Responses are then averaged to give you an overall question score as a percentage.

For example, if five people selected 'Strongly Agree' and five people selected 'Strongly Disagree', the score would be 50%.

Here's how it's done:

5 x Strongly Agree responses at 100% = 500%

5 x Strongly Disagree responses at 0% = 0%

Score = 500% divided by 10  responses = 50%

What about 'Don't know' responses?

'Don't know' responses are excluded from the score. However, do take a look at the number of people who selected that answer, as it may indicate an issue.

For example, if you asked, 'I role model our values every day', and 30 participants selected 'Don't know', it could suggest a lack of awareness around what your organisation's values are.
