Compare Participation Report

The Compare Participation Report shows you how many people took part in each of your surveys, side by side. Instead of opening each survey's participation report one at a time, you can see participation across every survey you are comparing in a single view, and spot where engagement is rising or falling.

For each survey being compared you will see:

Survey: the name of the survey
Invited: the number of people the participation rate is based on
Participation: how many people took part, shown as a percentage or as a breakdown of their progress

How to generate this report

To generate the Compare Participation Report:

Select Compare in the left menu, or the Compare surveys button within a survey's reports.
Select the surveys you want to compare. You need at least two surveys that you have access to.
Select Build reports.
Select the Participation tab.

Percentage and Breakdown views

Use the toggle in the column header to switch between two ways of looking at the same information.

Percentage: a single bar per survey showing the participation rate. Best for seeing at a glance which surveys did well and which did not.
Breakdown: a stacked bar per survey splitting participants into Completed, In Progress and Not Started, with both a percentage and a count for each. Best for understanding why a rate is what it is. A survey with a lot of In Progress responses is a different problem from one where most people never started.

What 'Invited' means

The Invited number is what the participation rate is calculated from.

If you added participants from your library, it is the total number of people invited.
If you used a public link or a kiosk link, it is the total number of people you expected to take the survey.
If you apply a date filter, this total changes to match the filtered period.

Why the two views can show different percentages

The Percentage view and the Breakdown view answer slightly different questions, so their percentages will not always agree.

The participation rate is worked out from the Invited number.
The Breakdown percentages are worked out from the people who actually have a status recorded, so that Completed, In Progress and Not Started always add up to 100 per cent of the bar.

For a survey sent to a participant list these two are usually the same. For a survey run from a public or kiosk link, where the invited number is an expectation rather than a list of people, they can differ. Both are correct, they are simply measuring against different totals.

Filtering

Any demographic filters you apply to the comparison also apply here, so you can look at participation for one part of the organisation across every survey. The applied filters bar at the top of the report shows exactly what is currently filtered, and each filter can be changed from there.

How to export this report

You can export the Compare Participation Report in the following formats: Excel and PowerPoint.

Excel gives you the figures for each survey, ready to work with in a spreadsheet.
PowerPoint produces a participation rate slide followed by a breakdown slide, with your account branding applied.
