Adding questions and question groups to your survey
When you reach Step 3: Questions of the survey create flow, you can add and remove questions from your survey. If you're using a survey template, it will already come with a set of questions. You can review them and choose which ones to include or remove.
Each question is displayed it's own row.
Each row displays the:
- question
- question type
- benchmark icon (if the question contributes to benchmarks).
For more information or to explore actions you can take for that question, select the row to expand it. What actions you can take depend on the type of question it is, but usually include:
How do I add questions from the question library?
You can add the questions from any of the templates in your subscription to any survey you are creating.
To add a question from the question library:
- Go to the bottom of the Question Group that you want to add a question to.
- Select Add from library.
- A popup modal will appear with the list of survey templates in your subscription
Select the survey from which you want to select your question.
The list of questions in the selected survey will be displayed below.
Select the questions you want to add to the survey you're creating.
- Questions can be viewed and selected by category using the Category pills.
- All questions can be viewed and selected using the All questions pill.
- Any questions you select will be listed in the Selected questions panel on the right side for you to review before confirming you want to add them.
- When reviewing, you can remove any selected question from the Selected questions panel by clicking on the (X) while hovering over the question.
- If you're happy with your list of questions to add, select Add to survey.
How do I add a custom question?
If you need to ask a question that isn't in your question library, you can add a custom question.
To add a custom question:
- Scroll to the bottom of the Questions page or to a Question Group you have added.
Select Create new question.
- An empty question card will appear. Enter the question you want to ask and an (optional) explanation.
- Select a Question type for the question. For example, Agree-Disagree or Yes-No. Learn more about question types.
- Select a Category for the question. This will be used to group questions in your survey reports. If you can't find a suitable category, you can add your own. Type your category name into the dropdown field and select to create it.
- If you want participants to be able to leave a comment on the question, check Allow Comments. You'll be able to edit the instructions shown above the comment field if you want to give participants an idea of what comments you're looking for.

How do I create my own question group?
- Select Create New Group. This button is displayed at the start and at the end of the page.
- Enter a name for the group.
- Add an explanation if required.
- If you would like the order of the questions within this group to be randomised, check the box: Randomised Questions.
- Select Save.

How do I remove a question from my survey?
There are two ways you can do this: deselect and delete.
Deselect question
You can deselect the question by clicking the circle to the left of the question. This will move it to the bottom of the page under the question group Deselected Questions. These questions won't show in your survey, but they remain as options to include if you're still deciding.
Delete question
If you want to tidy up your view on Step 3 and you're certain you don't want that question in your survey, you can delete it.
Here's how to do it:
- Deselect it first by clicking the circle to the left of the question.
- Scroll down to the heading Deselected Questions.
- Find the question you want to delete. Select the question title.
- Select Delete and confirm the action.
How do I add or change the category of my question?
You can change the category of your questions in Draft or Pending surveys.
To change the category:
- Select the question to expand the card and view options.
- Choose the Select a category dropdown.
- Select the new category for the question. If you can't find a suitable category for your question, you can add your own. Type your category name into the dropdown field and select to create it.
- Select Save.
Questions created with no category will fall under the 'Custom' category in reports. You will get a warning about this if you save the question without selecting a category.
